Less than a week to go……..
So the Wacky Rally is a mere five days away now and the excitement from all four of us, that is Rich, Adam, Tom and myself, is at breaking point.
For any of you who don’t know the rally involves buying a car for £250 or less and driving that car 1500 miles through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and finish in Barcelona, Spain in just four days. Plus you have to have a theme. Our theme is Where’s Wally?
I have my red and white striped Wally top, a hat is on its way thanks to ebay and Angela has a walking stick for me. I hasten to add she has it in her classroom. Quite why she has a walking stick at all, remains a mystery but I’m not complaining!
So everything is in place.
Over the last three or four months I have spent hours searching for ferries, setting up and mainting donation pages, a facebook group, a twitter page, our wacky rally website page as well as finding accomodation for four guys in four locations for four sepearte nights. And flights back!
Add to that a couple of days by all of us to decorate the massive tank like Saab 900i with Where’s Wally? pages and you can see that as fun as this rally is going to be it has taken a lot of organising.
I haven’t even mentioned the task Tom had to buy the car. Or the effort it took to for Adam, Tom and Rich to get down to London one weekend just to collect the car and bring it back to the North! Insurance was an issue as was tax but the guys did well and we are ready to go.
I say ready there are a few loose ends that need tidying up like a GB sticker, first aid kit and fire extingusher to drive legally on the continent. But that is a minor worry and by Thursday morning we’ll be sorted.
We have had a lot of support on Facebook and Twitter which means a lot to me (and I’m sure the other guys to). Donations have already topped £300 and we’ve not even driven a mile yet. However we really want more for our two chosen charities, The MS Society and Help For Heroes.
It is worth mentioning that we’ll be constantly updating our Facebook group page, Twitter accounts and Wack Rally page as we go along, with new photos and comments from all of us. I may if I have time write a blog on here each day.
There is also an official Wacky rally blog for all 70 teams on the official Wacky rally website so look out for us there as well!!
I think that’s it for now.
I’ll be back in a day or two before I set off.
