Greenbelt 2009: Standing In The Long Now
Beer and Hymns.
Three words that would be a good way of summing up a Christian festival. If you had to boil Greenbelt into its simplest equation I reckon Beer and Hymns would be a great tag line for it!
There was a lot of good things at Greenbelt. In fact the more I have thought about it since leaving the more I realise that I saw some great things and that even without realising it until now, I have been challenged.
There was the usual fun of pitching the tent which we did on a grass verge barely big enough for the tent I’d taken. Oh and we had somehow managed to forget to put the tent pegs in. So my brother lent me his twelve pegs he had and we put the frame of the huge six man tent up. Then immediately headed into Cheltenham town centre to find a camping shop so we could buy new pegs! Totally ridiculous.
So we got sorted with the tent eventually. We had a quick look around the actual festival, had some chips then met my parents who had taken 7 hours to get from Newcastle due to the bad bank holiday traffic. They had the tea and cooking stuff in their car. This was a bit annoying as we waited about two extra hours before we could eat! Not the best start but I guess thats what happens at festivals right?
Actually over the course of the weekend we barely spent anytime in the tent as there was so much going on. It was really just somewhere to sleep.
So that was how we arrived. I figure the easiest way to tell you what I did is by breaking it down into little headings, so here goes.
